Traditionally, acquisition of flight test data requires extensive fit-out of sensors, data acquisition units, integration with aircraft power and avionics systems and associated cabling and bracketry. Non-Intrusive Flight Test Instrumentation (NIFTI) consists of a network of wireless, adhesively mounted, battery-powered sensors that can be rapidly installed to capture data from aircraft not dedicated to flight test roles.

This presentation provides an overview of the technology behind NIFTI and recent examples where NIFTI has been used to non-intrusively capture flight test data that is synchronised with parameters readily available from modern avionics systems.
