Advancing the future of flight test: GE Aerospace's 747 Flying Test Bed
30 Sept 2026
In this presentation, Carlos Santos will take us through the exciting endeavor of acquiring and converting a former Japan Airlines aircraft into GE Aerospace's new Flying Test Bed. He'll highlight the plane's key features and share interesting facts about this experimental “Queen of the Skies.”In 2010, GE Aerospace acquired a 747-400 to replace its 1969-built 747-100 predecessor and serve as GE Aerospace's new Flying Test Bed (FTB). Since then, the aircraft has supported multiple new engine programs - from LEAP to the GE9X, the largest commercial engine ever produced. Plans are also to test and fly new engine technologies like Open Fan this decade.
